Our Optical shops take pride in providing quality customer service and premium products. We recommend polycarbonate lenses for safety and durability, and thin and light materials for aesthetics and comfort. Look for brand names such as Varilux, Transitions, and Crizal anti-reflective coatings. We carry a full line of lenses and frames, both designer and domestic, to fit every budget.

Billing and Insurance
Eye Associates of New Mexico accepts many health insurance. Click here for more information on insurance plans.
Managed care plans have their own requirement to ensure coverage and/or maximize benefits. Please consult with your insurance to see what referrals or prior authorizations are required from your regular provider before you can see a specialist.
We are available for any calls regarding billing and insurance, Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00 pm. You may call (505) 246-2622 or(800) 640-9622 and you will be connected with a patient account specialist who will assist you.
Payment of co-payments, deductibles and uninsured amounts are required at the time of service. We accept payment by cash, check, bank card, or money order.
If you do not have insurance, we ask that you pay for services at the time of your visit. If you require medical services and want to discuss the payment options please call (505) 246-2622 or (800) 640-9622 to speak with a Patient Account Specialist.
The care of your eyes includes routine vision exams and medical exams. Most medical insurance plans do not cover routine vision exams. Please refer to our list of insurances to see some routine vision and medical insurances plan with whom we contact. Any questions regarding your specific coverage, including referrals and authorizations, should be directed to your insurance company or your company benefits administrator. You are responsible for any amount not covered by your plan. Be advised, if a refraction service is performed this service is generally not covered by insurance.
We are happy to submit your insurance claims for you. In order for us to bill accurately, we will need copies of your insurance cards that include identification numbers, groups numbers, and claim address and phone number. Please inform us if you change insurance coverage to ensure accurate billing.

Minors
Permission from a parent or guardian is required before treatment may be provided to those under the age of 18 or non-emancipated minors. A consent for treatment of the minor will be obtained prior to services and the parent and/or legal guardian can direct care.
Referrals and Authorizations
Some medical insurance companies require a referral from a patient's primary care physician before they will authorize care from a specialist. At other times to obtain maximum benefits, you may be required to obtain a referral. Any questions regarding your specific coverage, including referrals and authorizations, should be directed to your insurance company or your company benefits administrator.
Most vision insurance will require a prior authorization for service. Our office will obtain the authorization for you. Co-payment or co-insurance is due at the time of service. You will want to verify eligibility for a routine eye exam with your vision insurance prior to scheduling you eye exam. Some plans limited coverage based on the diagnosis, the provider or time since last service.

- Why is a co-pay due at the time of service?
– A co-pay is a requirement of your insurance company. - Why do you collect the refraction before you bill my medical insurance?
– The refraction is considered a routine vision service and is not covered by most medical insurance companies. - Why doesn't my statement show my payment?
– Please allow 7 days for your payment to be credited to your account. If it has been more than 7 days, please contact our business office at (800) 640-9622. - Have you billed my secondary insurance?
– We will bill your secondary insurance when we have received response from your primary insurance. - Do you accept my insurance?
– Eye Associates of New Mexico participates with most major insurance companies. For the most accurate information, refer to your insurance handbook or call your insurance company. - What is the due date?
– Payment in full is due 15 days from your statement date. If this is not possible, please call (505) 246-2622 or 800-640-9622 - Can I come to your clinic if I don't have insurance?
– Yes, we welcome you even without insurance. We do require that you pay for services at the time of service. We accept cash, check, or credit cards. Financing is available. - How much do I pay for a routine eye exam?
– The average price for an established patient eye exam is $150 plus $35 for the refraction. The average price for an new patient eye exam is $180 plus $35 for the refraction.
