Eye Associates of New Mexico

Silvia Altimirano, ABOC, Optical Training Specialist for Eye Associates, discussed the importance of UV filter application on glasses and checked participant glasses to make sure they tested to 0% UV transmission. New Mexico residents are in the top 10% of those having the most cataract surgeries in the United States. Because of the higher altitude, New Mexicans are at a higher risk for Ultra Violet exposure and that has been linked to the development of cataracts. Eye Associates of New Mexico’s 2 technical staff trainers, Crystal Miranda, COMT and Kathy Benford, COMT, were on hand to provide visual acuity screenings and answer questions regarding general eye care and the importance of having eye exams every one to two years.
